MEET OUR STAFF!

Buren Martin

Mr. Martin holds a master’s degree in theatre with an emphasis in playwriting and direction from the University of South Carolina. He worked for many years in public education as a high school teacher, and as an elementary and high school principal. Buren’s theatre experience is varied. He has over 3000 performance credits in over 175 different productions, many written by himself… Including two shows in New York, Off-Broadway: Whatever Happened to ‘Chinese’ Baker, in 1990… and, Relative Madness in 1991.

Milner Martin

Milner holds a Bachelor’s degree in theatre from North Greenville University with an emphasis in technical theatre. He was raised “in the steamer trunk” on tour.  He directs most of our 9 to 18 year-old shows. When he isn’t helping The Inman Theatre with summer camps, Milner is touring with The Baillie Players, producing children’s theatre in schools across the southeast. Milner is also a playwright. His most recent work, HomeSquad: The Musical, was produced at The Inman Theatre. He also teaches ICT’s annual playwright class, where students will write scenes and combine them into one show, which will, in turn, be used as one of our drama camps every July.

Klayre Martin

Klayre is our scenic designer, scene painter, props master… person extraordinaire. Most of the sets, and props you see onstage in our productions were designed and built by her. Klayre also tours alongside Milner under The Baillie Players as an actress and sound board technician.

What do you do at ICT Drama Camp?

We do children’s camps that culminate in a professional quality performance, complete with costumes, props and a full set. We are NOT like most other theatre groups.

We do NOT hold auditions, then choose the best to be in our plays, sending the other home. We do NOT rehearse for 6 to 18 weeks. We do not hand out 25 tickets to each child, then push them to sell them at $10 to $20 each.

We do this: We allow any parent to register their child to be in one of our one-week camps. No experience is necessary… just a desire to “be in” a play. ON the first day of camp we audition all the actors. Then we cast the show.

We limit the participants to 30 children. First registered, first served. We announce in advance the sign-up date and time…. Time is important because many of our camps fill up within 10 minutes of the open registration. We do two types of camps differentiated by age.  Some are 7 to 13-year-old camps. Others are 9 to 18-year-old camps.

The cost for one week of camp is $65 per child. Tickets to attend productions are $5. No, there are NO comps…. Unlike many children’s theatre groups, we have a healthy base of community theatre attendees NOT related to the children onstage. It has to do with the high quality of our shows.

It should be obvious by now that we are theatre people, but that we are also educators. We will work with a student actor, often over several years and many shows to enhance their skills, and their personal confidence in those skills.
